A NEW book delves into one of the most important years in Swindon Town FC's history.
Author Dick Mattick has just published a non-fiction volume called First Promotion, which is all about the 1962-63 season where The Robins won promotion to the Second Division for the first time ever.
Mr Mattick said: "The book tells of how a team of mainly local products brought success to the club after 50 years of failure.
"It shows what can be achieved when the whole community pulls together.
"I feel that this is what is happening again now thanks to Clem and Rob [Angus]."
Copies of the book will be donated to every school library in the borough and be available to buy from the football club itself.
Swindon Town chairman Clem Morfuni presented the book to Mayor of Swindon Abdul Amin just before Saturday's match against Gillingham.
Coun Amin thanked his fellow Rotarian Dick Mattick for his efforts in writing the book and praised the club for its kind gesture of presenting copies to schools in the borough.
The mayor confessed to also supporting Aston Villa but said Swindon is now very much his first choice club and he wished it every success in the future.
