A popular Swindon tearoom has been served a forfeiture notice following its sudden closure.

McCtaffs was a tea room located at 1 College Street in the town centre and was a hotspot for food and drinks.

The eatery served a variety of meals throughout the day from breakfast to lunch classics such as sandwiches and toasties.

It was most famed for its tearoom treats however, which featured the classic afternoon tea with all the trimmings for hungry shoppers in the Wiltshire town.

This will no longer be the case though as McCtaffs has closed its doors for the final time, removing all logos from their town centre shopfront.

It first closed last October with a sign put on the door saying the cafe was closed due to staff sickness.

But now, a forfeiture notice has been served.

This is visible from outside the property, with the notice stuck to the front door of the former eatery.

It reads that agents on behalf of the landlord have re-entered the property, and any attempt "by you or your agents to enter these premises will result in criminal or civil proceedings being taken against you".

The Adver attempted to contact McCtaffs' Lyndsey McCabe for comment.

This newspaper received an automatic response to our Facebook message, which read: “Our Swindon shop is closed permanently.

“Due to a family bereavement, I’m not working at the moment. I have decided to go into semi-retirement due to health problems and taking a few months off from baking.

“I will post when I’m taking orders again so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

When McCtaffs moved to its current location last year, owner Jamie McCabe spoke about how maintaining a town centre outlet was a priority.

In a Facebook post shared and publicised by Swindon Borough Council, he said: "The move here was a sensible choice as we knew we wanted to remain in the town centre, that was one of our top priorities. We wanted to still provide a service to our regulars who have used us and were very loyal during the pandemic.

“The bus routes all lead to the town centre so a lot of our customers were coming from every part of Swindon and sometimes even further out than that. For those customers who are familiar with where we are it was imperative to give them a facility in the town centre that they can enjoy.”
