Swindon’s pubs and bars have been ranked by Tripadvisor from their recent reviews and the top ten provide some familiar names.
The tough economic times in 2022 saw some of the town's eateries forced to close, whilst new ones have also been springing up from time to time.
These rankings are based on the average score of the reviews that each business received on the popular travel company website, Tripadvisor.
Each of the following entries on the list have enjoyed a successful start to 2023, with positive recent reviews published across the board.

#8 The Cricklade Club
Finishing inside the top eight is Swindon’s The Cricklade Club, which was established in 2017.
The pub is commended by Tripadvisor reviewers for its “lush breakfast” as well as its “perfect brunch” making it a perfect spot for those who like a little food with their drink.

#7 The Harvey
Coming in at number seven on the list is The Harvey.
This pub has left Tripadvisor reviewers astounded by its quality, with the establishment being praised for its “spotless and attentive service.”
Reviews described it as “outstanding” as well as “fantastic” and “top banana.”
Located at 18 West Swindon District Centre, Swindon SN5 7DL.
#6 The Plough on the Hill
A pub which is evidently worth making the short journey to is The Plough on the Hill.
The business is described as serving an “excellent breakfast” and a “fabulous Sunday lunch.”
The only key criticism was of how busy it got, showing it to be a popular venue for Swindonians.

#5 The Rat Trap
Finishing in the top five, Swindon’s The Rat Trap is a familiar pub.
The pub is described by Tripadvisor reviewers as being a “well run family pub” with staff that “cannot do enough for you.”
There was also particular praise for the Black Forest trifle as it “complemented the meal perfectly” due to it being “light, seasonal and moreish”.

#4 The Bell Inn
Just missing out on the top three is The Bell Inn.
The pub is applauded in reviews for having “lovely food, lovely staff and atmosphere” as well as seeing itself described as being “worth every penny”.
Located at Purton Stoke, Purton, Swindon SN5 4JG.
#3 The Cold Harbour
Taking the bronze medal on the list is The Cold Harbour.
The pub is described by Tripadvisor reviewers as “great food with great service” and others who only reviewed the business a week ago said that they “would be back very soon”.
Located at Ermin Street, Blunsdon, Swindon SN26 8DJ.
#2 The Bakers at Badbury
Just missing out on first place in Swindon is The Bakers at Badbury.
The pub is described by customers as and is praised for being “friendly” and providing a “fine lunch” for its visitors.
Its location which is “just off the motorway” is also highlighted, making it a convenient stop from travellers as well as locals.

#1 New Calley Arms
Taking the top spot in Swindon is the New Calley Arms.
The pub is described by users as being a “fantastic country pub” with has “simply the best roast”, while others have praised its “friendly” atmosphere.
The pub is open every day until 11pm, making it a popular local for many residents.
