Police have issued an update on their investigation into the stabbing of a teenage boy in Swindon.

Officers responded to a 999 call from Shaftesbury Avenue at around 3.30pm on Wednesday after two men stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the arm.

The victim's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and he currently remains in hospital for treatment.

Police put a crime scene in place - which has since been lifted - to allow for the officers to carry out enquiries.

They soon arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of possession of a bladed article. He has since been released on bail while the investigation continues.

Wiltshire Police believe two other males were involved in the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, as well as anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage from Cranmore Avenue to the junction of Farnborough Road.

Supt Phil Staynings said: “This is a concerning incident and the public will continue to see a heightened police presence in the area while officers continue with their enquiries.

“Cracking down on knife crime and deterring the carrying of bladed weapons is a key priority for Wiltshire Police and we are working incredibly hard to locate the two individuals believed to have been involved in this incident.

“Please feel free to approach any of our officers with any concerns you may have, and if you have any information that could help us with this incident then please get in touch.”
