A WEEK of disruption is expected in North Swindon following the latest in a series of sewage leaks from the same area.

Thames Water tankers have become a familiar sight in North Swindon and they were seen again on March 1 when the Haydon End sewage pumping station experienced another leak, contaminating the nearby River Ray again.

The utility company scrambled engineers to fix the problem, and in a letter delivered to nearby residents it has now informed them that they could be working in the area for up to a week.

The letter said: "I'm writing to let you know our pressurised sewer has burst.

"This sewer starts at Haydon End SPS in Queen Elizabeth Drive, however the incident is closer to our Sewage Treatment Works near Rodbourne Industrial Estate.

"We're really sorry for any disruption this may cause you and want to assure you that we're working round the clock to fix the problem."

It added: "Due to the size and location of the sewer we're expecting this to take approximately a week to repair.

We'll work hard to complete this sooner if possible. If for any reason we believe it will take longer, we'll of course let you know."

Residents can expect an increase in noise and movement in the area and the presence of tankers.

Dog walkers have been advised to keep their pets out of the River Ray.
