The B&M store in Swindon has officially shut its doors for the final time ahead of the opening of a new ‘bigger and better’ store in the town next weekend.
The shop has been located on Octal Way for several years but the location closed its tills for the final time on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
Swindonians will not be left without a local B&M for long however as a new store will open as soon as next weekend. At 9am on Saturday, March 11, a new store will open its doors to the public, very close to the old location.
B&M can now be found in the former Go Outdoors building which provides a bigger area for customers to shop to their heart’s content.
Go Outdoors themselves moved location, to the old Toys R Us building on Oxford Road, in April.
In addition to the interior of the new B&M store, the location also benefits from 8,677 square feet of garden centre selling hundreds of plant varieties and gardening products.
This outside area could be seen full of garden-related items such as trellis, fencing and plant pots on Saturday, one week prior to the store’s grand opening.
Inside the shelves were in the process of being stocked over the weekend with staff working hard to ensure the new shop is ready in time for next week’s scheduled opening date.
B&M’s colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity they think truly deserves some VIP treatment for the work they do for the local community.
They chose the team from The Harbour Project Charity to take centre stage and officially unveil the new B&M store.
The Harbour Project Charity welcomes and supports refugees and asylum seekers in Swindon. They have worked tirelessly since the Kosovo crisis in 2000 to help those who have risked their lives, families and homes fleeing war and persecution.
Over 100 visitors a day are welcomed to their organisation, offering support, practical help and a warm, safe space for social integration and classes.
The store manager at B&M Swindon, said: “We wanted a bigger and better store for our customers, giving them even more big, branded products.
“We hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store, we’re really excited to get the doors open very soon.”
