The reason as to why one key thoroughfare in North Swindon has seen the worst traffic queues in Swindon has been revealed.
Despite the snow that fell across Wiltshire on Wednesday and the usual rush hour traffic, the roads around the Moonrakers junctions has been consistently backed up this week.
Cricklade Road has seen long traffic queues around the Pinehurst area, even reaching as far as Penhill during the busiest points of the day.
The reason for this is temporary traffic lights that were installed on Monday, March 6, while groundworks were attended to by engineers.
Power provider Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks have deployed engineers to the area after a fault was detected in one of the cables underground.
The fault has since been rectified by the SSEN staff on site, with power being restored at around 10.52pm on Wednesday, March 8.
A total of 18 customers in Swindon were affected.
Delays are expected to carry on throughout Thursday as well though as the temporary traffic lights will need to be removed.
A spokesperson for SSEN said: “Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks was alerted to a fault on the underground cable at Cricklade Road, Swindon on Monday 7 March at 4:00am.
“SSEN apologies for any inconvenience caused while safely carrying out these emergency repairs and thanks customers, affected by this interruption to their supplies, for their patience while this essential work was completed.”
