Two-speed devices have been installed in a Swindon suburb to provide evidence for locals' speeding claims.
Covingham Parish Council announced it was researching the provision of Speed Indicator Devices in July 2021 in order to help provide hard data that motorists are reaching excessive speeds on Covingham's four main roads.
Now two of these devices have been installed this week in the area, which will help to capture speed data, and identify the number of cars using the roads and what times of day and night, but no personal information.
Parish councillor Val Curtis explained: "The final data can then be the evidence needed to inform the local authority and the police that the perception [of speeding] is a reality."
The parish council has identified eight locations in total that they want to collect data from two in Covingham Drive, two in Kingfisher Drive, two in St Paul’s Drive and two in Merlin Way.
The two signs are intended to move around to the different locations on a regular basis, to give a complete picture of what is going on.
