A boy from Swindon washed several cars across the town to be able to afford to buy his mother gifts for Mothering Sunday.
Cody Rylands is just 12 years old but decided to earn funds so that he could purchase multiple gifts for his mum Alice on Mother’s Day.
“When I saw what he had done for me I was overwhelmed; he is a sweetheart,” she remarked.
“He told me he was going to wash the cars so that he could get me a present and after I saw a post from one of the people whose cars he had cleaned, I cried.”
As he set out to clean the cars, Cody realised that he had forgotten his gear but his client, 34-year-old Sammie Leigh, was kind enough to provide some equipment.
“I had a little lad knock on my door asking if he could wash my car to make some money so he could buy his mum some Mother’s Day gifts,” said Sammie.
“How could anybody say no to that! He was so polite and appreciative as he said people don’t like trusting children with their cars so no one else had said yes that day.
“One of my neighbours saw him doing mine and he also let him wash his car. The boy is a true credit to his family.”
The 12-year-old first started cleaning cars back in the summer of 2022 but had stopped doing so when the cold weather came in with winter.
“He initially pinched my washing up liquid and a couple of sponges from under the sink but when we found out what he was doing, we bought him supplies,” said Alice.
“He goes around Eldene and Liden washing the neighbours’ cars and he absolutely loves doing it.”
After restarting this year as the weather has started to warm, Cody has washed over 50 cars in total in Swindon, charging £10 for a full clean including the exhausts.
“I felt a bit worried as he is only 12 but we know everyone here and I trust his judgement,” said Alice.
“Both his dad and grandad are in the motor trade so it makes sense for him to work with what he loves.
“He wants to be a mechanic or a race car driver when he’s older.”
Cody surprised his mother with several gifts bought with the profits of his car cleaning adventures.
“He got me three candles, some makeup and a big card,” said Alice.
“I just felt so overwhelmed and proud!”
