Another post office in West Swindon will close in April.

The Freshbrook Tesco Express site is to close temporarily on April 22.

There used to be four post office for residents on that side of the town to choose from, but, temporarily at least, there will only be two that remain open.

The closure is because the Tesco Express will be closing for refurbishment, with the Post Office confirming that its store will also have to close.

A letter was written by Post Office to nearby residents, informing them of the coming closure, expected to last just over a month.

"We are writing to inform you that due to extensive building work at the above location, the branch will need to close temporarily.

"The safety of our customers is of paramount importance to us, therefore, to allow for the building work to take place, it will be necessary for the service to close, temporarily, on Saturday, April 22 2023 at 12.30pm.

"It is envisaged that the work will take approximately five weeks to complete, following which the service will re-open on Friday, May 26 2023 at 9am."

The news was not met well by locals with one responding: "What a dire situation - at the moment. Let’s hope things will eventually change for the better."

Just over a year ago, another Post Office that used to be in the West Swindon District Centre closed permanently although there are hopes it will be replaced soon.

In January it was announced that an interested party had made a formal application to the Post Office to reopen the branch in the area.

It was later confirmed that the landlord of the prospective building had agreed to the use of their premises for the new branch, but no one has been able to confirm where this new store might be.

But in the meantime, the two branches at Toothill and Shaw Village Centre remain the only local provision for the entire Swindon area, and on top of this, the Toothill Store only offers limited services.

"We would like to apologise for the inconvenience the temporary closure may cause. We hope that our customers will continue to use the Post Office," the letter from the Post Office added.
