Neighbours in a Swindon estate have described a violent attack in the lift of a Swindon housing block, which has reportedly left one man with serious injuries.
One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Adver of a disturbance at Briarswood Court on Wednesday, March 29.
“There was an awful lot of noise coming from the lift,” they said.
“You could clearly hear that a fight was going on and it sounded like someone was being hurt.
Following this incident, the lift has been out of operation and resulted in a maintenance manager arriving on site the following Wednesday, April 5.
“The maintenance manager told me later that the lift had been damaged by someone," the resident said.
“I told him to check the CCTV from last week as the fight could have done it.”
Later that day it was reported that several police cars arrived at the site in the evening with the noise of sirens blaring.
“Around 9pm there was at least one ambulance and a police car and I heard the sirens,” said another resident.
“I left to start work the following day just after 8am and I saw police everywhere."
Late afternoon on Thursday, April 6, police officers were seen to return to the area which included a forensics team.
“When I got back from work I noticed that there were three vehicles in total with two police cars and one forensics van.
“The police car left earlier but the forensics vehicle was still there at 11pm before I went to sleep.”
It is not clear if the earlier incident and the police presence a week later are related and Wiltshire police have yet to respond to a request for a comment.
Because the second lift in the block was already broken, it means there is no abled-access for residents living in the building at the moment.
“Both lifts are still not working with one flagging as being inspected on the screen,” said one homeowner.
“The door that opens to the left as you are leaving the lift looks to have been kicked in and severely damaged.”
The whole chain of events has left locals confused about what has occurred with some fearing the worst.
“I’ve seen a stronger police presence in the last few days here than ever before.”
