A MAJOR street in Cirencester was closed while police negotiated with a burglary suspect who had climbed onto a bar roof.
Police closed off Castle Street after pursuing a man through town on Wednesday (April 5).
The suspect then proceeded to climb onto the roof of popular cocktail bar Somewhere Else and all bar staff were asked to stay inside the premises until 4.50pm.
Officers negotiated with the man for several minutes to come down from the roof.
At 4.30pm a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary said: “Police pursued a burglary suspect in Cirencester at around 4pm yesterday.
"He subsequently climbed onto the roof of a building on Castle Street and due to this the road was closed and members of the public were moved away.
"The man came down off the roof shortly after 4.30pm.
“A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and he remains in police custody.”
