A Swindon pensioner has been left without water and a working oven for months despite shelling out more than £5,000 on a kitchen.
Ken Hunt of Wroughton first bought the kitchen from Wickes in January and was hoping for a quick turnaround.
But what followed was a long, protracted saga which led to the 67-year-old being left without water and a working oven for months.
“There’s no electric in the kitchen and I also have no water in there either as there is no sink,” said Ken.
“I’m having to live off microwave meals and takeaways as there is no cooker, hob or even gas.”
Ken’s Ely Court flat is located on the first floor and the fitter refused to take the worktops up the flight of stairs, leaving the pensioner without them.
“They wouldn’t carry the worktops up the stairs and I couldn’t either because of my back problems,” he said.
“It is only one flight of stairs but they have left the worktops in the Swindon shop.
The whole experience has been a frustrating one for Ken with problems arising at the very first hurdle.
“We were told by the fitter upon arrival that specialist work was required at an extra cost but we had not been told about this beforehand,” he said.
“The tiles arrived the next day and were just dumped in the fire exit so my sister and I had to carry the tiles upstairs.
“One set of tiles was so heavy that neither of us could lift them and I had to get a friend to help.”
The inconveniences have left the 67-year-old hating living in his own home.
“I don’t feel like living here right now and I have to go into the bathroom just to wash my cup,” he added.
“I just want it done as I have never spent this much on a room before and I have been living like this for three months.”
A spokesperson for Wickes said: “We are sorry to hear of Mr Hunt’s experience as we always aim to deliver a high standard of customer service.
“Our customer relations team is in contact and has discussed alternative accommodation while the kitchen is completed.
