A MOTORIST has been caught doing an excessive speed on a Swindon dual carriageway.
On April 8, the driver of a Mercedes was observed by members of Wiltshire Police's Roads Policing Unit reaching speeds as high as 118mph on the road, 48mph over the speed limit.
The incident was detailed in a post on the Wiltshire Specialist Operations Twitter page, which covers the county's roads policing team and armed response unit.
In the tweet, an officer said: "RPU stopped the driver of this Mercedes this evening, travelling at 118mph on the A419. There is no excuse to be travelling at that speed."
They also posted a photo of the offending vehicle, a silver-coloured Mercedes, taken after it was pulled over, along with the speed gun reading showing the high speed recorded.
One member of the public who responded to the post said the driver was "putting lives at risk", but another responded by telling Wiltshire Police to "catch real criminals."
Responding, an officer from the team said: "You appear to have stumbled on a page that has a large focus on road safety, if this is not to your choosing feel free to keep scrolling, drive safe."
