IT'S been the heart of Swindon's shopping district for well over a century, but Regent Street has undergone some huge changes over the decades.
Our images give a flavour of those developments during the past 60 years, stretching back to before it was pedestrianised.
McIlroys department store was one of the jewels in Swindon's high street crown. The first of a chain to be opened by draper William McIlroy, it reigned for more than a hundred years, until competition from national chains like Debenhams and House of Fraser proved too much. It closed 25 years ago.
Our images shows a packed street, a Wimpy and other favourite brands like Visionhire, Abbey National, Stead and Simpson and Foster Menswear.
