Drinkers at the Steam Railway Co in Old Town will be able to enjoy long summer evenings with a pint or two outdoors, should the pub’s latest application be approved this week.

The recently refurbished and re-opened pub in Newport Street has applied to be able to use an outdoor bar in its yard to make things easier and quicker for customers drinking outside.

That application will be heard, discussed, and decided upon by a three-councillor panel on Thursday (April 13).

The report by officers to councillors says: “The changes consist of permitting the use of the external area for the sale of alcohol from a mobile dispense bar."

The report suggests conditions on the use of the outside mobile bar – that it may only be used until 11pm,  that “sufficient” staff will be allocated to conduct regular checks of the garden to monitor customer behaviour and noise, and remove empty glasses and bottles, and that once the bar outside stops serving the garden will remain open just for eating and drinking.

The pub was closed for part of March for a full refurbishment.

The panel meeting starts at 10.30am on Thursday, April 13 at the civic offices in Euclid Street.
