A new £113,000 skate park is opening in Swindon this year.

Stratton St Margaret Parish Council is making good progress on its plans to add the outdoor leisure facility to Meadowcroft Field after originally agreeing to move forward on this project in June 2022.

Councillors recently agreed on slight changes to the approved design so that it fits better onto the available land, has more space between the street and mini ramp areas, and provides a better flow for users around the entire skate park.

Construction is expected to begin at the end of April and take two months to build. It is due to be completed at the end of June, just in time for the Stratton Festival on July 15.

Bendcrete Ltd will build the structure at a cost of £113,150, with costs covered by a £9,000 grant from Community First Wiltshire and the other £104,000 coming from the parish council's coffers, with cash allocated for future developments (£6,390), Section 106 (£32,219), and the Skate Park (£65,000).

Though the construction costs have gone up from the originally-expected figure of £110,000, the newly-acquired grant will reduce the overall cost to the council by £5,850.
