Several people have been badly hurt following a crash near Dilton Marsh.
Two air ambulances and multiple emergency vehicles responded to the collision believed to involve two cars on the A3098 near Dilton Marsh at around 4.30pm Tuesday afternoon.
A witness described seeing both Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance land nearby, as well as at least four ambulances, parademics and a fire engine at the scene.
It is believed that two people were taken to Southmead Hospital for treatment, but the extent of the injuries and exactly how many people have been injured in total has not yet been confirmed by Wiltshire Police.
Police had closed the road between Westbury and Chapmanslade to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and to carry out a full investigation into the circumstances
It eventually reopened five hours later at roughly 10.20pm.
Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported that there was heavy traffic as a result of the road closure, with motorists travelling between Dilton Marsh and Frome affected.
Wiltshire Police have been contacted for further information.
