It has been 26 years since a double-decker bus was deliberately driven into a major Swindon railway bridge to prove a point in the most dramatic of ways.
The train overpass bridge which intersects Corporation Street and Station Road is used every day by trains above and cars below but it used to be notorious three decades ago.
During the 1990s, this particular bridge was being hit by double-decker buses at an alarming rate.
This was a major problem for the town as it led to journeys being disrupted for both Swindon drivers and commuters on the train too.
Due to these mounting concerns over safety and the apparent lack of care elsewhere towards the issue, it was decided in 1996 that a bus would be deliberately bashed into the bridge.
This was to show just how dangerous it can be and a video posted on YouTube by user Stinging Nettle documents the planned smash.
It shows the green double-decker pulling around the bend at speed before ploughing into the bridge, smashing the entire top level of the bus.
Half of the top deck is crushed in the impact.
