A swan on the loose in Tadpole Garden Village has made a trip to a supermarket.
Several members of the public in the residential area of Swindon reported seeing the bird wandering the streets of the area all by itself.
Along with walking around the village, the swan was spotted on its way to the local Sainsbury’s supermarket on William Morris Way.
Local resident Martin George Gridley said: “It was just by the Sainsbury’s.
“I noticed it first in one of the gardens and had to do a double take.”
The incident sparks flashbacks to a memorable scene from the British comedy film ‘Hot Fuzz’ in which a similar scenario unfolds, also in the south west of England.
Local police officers, played by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, attempt to track down a swan on the loose in the fictional village of Sanford, Gloucestershire, throughout the movie.
After the missing animal is reported by a character named P.I. Staker, played by Stephen Merchant, the topic becomes a running joke with lines such as “no luck catching them swans then” and “it’s just the one swan actually”.
