A DRIVER involved in a crash on the M4 has been reported by police for 'careless driving'.
Emergency services attended a crash on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway between Junction 15 for Swindon and Junction 14 for Hungerford at around 7.45am on Wednesday morning.
Two cars and a lorry were involved in the incident which prompted a response from police, the ambulance service and firefighters, and one female casualty had to be cut out of her vehicle.
She was then taken to the hospital for injuries that were not thought to be serious or life-threatening.
Two lanes were closed by National Highways as emergency services dealt with the scene, causing an hour delay for motorists who were caught in seven miles of traffic.
The road was eventually cleared and all lanes fully reopened just after 10am.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police initially provided a statement during the incident, which said: "We are currently attending a road traffic collision on the M4 between Junction 14 and 15 involving a lorry and two cars.
"Two lanes in the [eastbound] carriageway are currently closed to allow emergency services to attend to the scene.
"One person is being treated for injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.
"Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and be aware of the potential for delays."
Once the road had reopened, the spokesperson provided a further update. "One person was treated for minor injuries.
"We have also reported one person for careless driving. No arrests have been made.
"We are happy to hear from any members of the public who may have evidence, although we are not actively appealing for information as this is a relatively minor offence.
"Any witnesses to the incident or those with dash cam footage are asked to call 101 when safe to do so, quoting log 42 of today (19/04)."
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue also provided a statement, explaining that three fire crews from the town had responded and were needed.
A spokesperson for the region's fire service said: "We were called to the M4 eastbound between J15 and Membury services at 7.44am this morning following a road traffic collision between a lorry and a car.
"Three crews attended, one from Swindon and two from Stratton, and a female casualty was cut free from the car. She was handed into the care of the ambulance service and taken to the hospital. Our stop was at 8.53am."
