A Wiltshire pub that experienced a major fire last week has given an update following the incident.
This led to firefighters battling for nearly two hours to prevent the flames from catching to the rest of the building.
Firefighters were called to the building at 8.10pm, and with the help of an aerial ladder platform, had the blaze extinguished by 9.56pm.
The roof of an outbuilding was left with a hole in it and the plastic lid of the bin was left mangled by the heat.
A spokesperson for The Churchill said: “We’d like to thank fire crews for attending so promptly and stopping the fire from spreading. Everyone was evacuated safely and no one was harmed.
“The fire was contained in the cellar and this is where nearly all the damage has occurred. Our hotel rooms were not damaged and the pub should be back open shortly.”
Crews from Westlea, Stratton and Royal Wootton Bassett quickly reacted on the night to prevent disater.
A spokesperson from Westlea Fire Station said: “Group two backed up Royal Wootton Bassett Fire Station at a fire involving a pub cellar.
“Quick action from the first arriving crew prevented a more serious incident.”
