An air force base has issued noise warnings as it plans to fly Typhoon planes over the coming days.

The twin-engine fighter planes will operate out of RAF Benson for training purposes on Thursday, April 20, and Friday, 21.

The base said neighbouring towns and villages – including Wallingford, Benson, Ewelme and Brightwell-cum-Sotwell - should expect “loud noise”.

Chad Dodsworth, station engagements officer, said: “This is to serve as notification that Typhoon aircraft will be operating from RAF Benson 20 – 21 Apr 23.

“In view of the loud noise created by Typhoons, we hope that this message can be distributed to your parish to help avoid any inconvenience.

“The reason for the Typhoon activity is for training, for both the pilots and base itself to practise sustaining fast jet operations.”

Despite the warning, many have reacted with excitement about the possibility of spotting the planes.

Caroline Ann Adams said: “How lovely hope I see them, will bring back great memories of travelling about with my late husband who was in the RAF, Benson being the last place he served.”

Lynda Bowyer said: “My inner child remembering seeing low-flying fast jets over Yorkshire is quite excited at this prospect.”

Ben Tommo Thomas added that there would be a “brilliant spotting opportunity” from the end of Queens Avenue in Wallingford.

Claire Elkin speculated that the training was practice for the coronation of King Charles III on May 6.
