Latest food hygiene ratings for Wiltshire pubs and takeaways

Food-based businesses throughout the county are inspected on their hygiene regularly and receive scores from zero, meaning urgent improvement is required, to five.

These scores are carried out by the Food Standards Agency and are based on a venue’s handling of food, how food is stored and prepared, the cleanliness of facilities and how food safety is managed.

The latest results from inspections carried out in March and April can be found below.

Five-out-of-five

Six restaurants and cafes scooped full marks on their most recent inspection, meaning their hygiene standards are “very good.”

These include the Melksham Hub Cafe on Station Approach, BeeTees Cafe and Bar on Market Street in Trowbridge, and Meraki Homemade Greek Food and Artis in Bradford on Avon.

Rounding out the list is Jo Jos on Royal Wootton Bassett High Street, the Homefield Cafe in Devizes and Tale of Spice at North Street, Pewsey.

These venues are joined by four five-out-of-five pubs and bars.

The Harp and Crown Inn in Corsham, The Bell on the Common in Melksham, The Swan at Longstreet, Devizes, and The Charlton Cat in Pewsey all impressed enough to gain top marks.

Finally, four takeaways were also handed five-out-of-five ratings.

These were popular Chippenham takeaway Boston Burger, China Town on Station Road in Tidworth, The Market Plaice in Devizes town centre and High Street venue Malmesbury Rendezvous.

Four-out-of-five

Several takeaways throughout the county fell just short of the maximum rating and were given grades of four-out-of-five, indicating “good” hygiene standards.

These included Chick O Land on Sidmouth Street in Devizes, Calne Kebab and Pizza on William Street and Star East at Hackett Place in Hilperton.

These takeaways were joined by three pubs who also received a grade of four.

The Foresters Arms in Melksham on Sandridge Road in Melksham, the White Bear Inn at Market Street Devizes, and The Kings Arms Inn in All Cannings.

Three-out-of-five

Receiving a “generally satisfactory” hygiene score was the Three Tuns Inn on Great Bedwyn High Street, and The Granville Chinese Restaurant in Melksham.

Two-out-of-five

Finally, a score of two means a business requires “some improvement” in their hygiene standards.

The Smoking Dog pub on Malmesbury High Street, New Gourmet Oriental takeaway on Royal Wootton Bassett High Street and Chop Suey House in Melksham were all slapped with this rating.
