A teenager is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after a shooting in Swindon. 

Police responded to an incident involving gun shots in Odstock Road, Penhill, just after midnight in the early hours of Monday (April 24) morning. 

Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended and airlifted one victim, a 17-year-old male, to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. 

Police have confirmed the teen is still there now receiving treatment for 'potentially life-changing injuries'. 

The county force is now appealing for any witnesses who saw what happened, or anyone with information that may help to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Tucker said: “We are actively investigating this incident with all the resources at our disposal.

“We would be very grateful to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident and may have seen what happened.

"We are also appealing to anyone in the area to check CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera footage from overnight 23rd into 24th April.  

“This attack has left a young man with serious injuries and he is currently undergoing hospital treatment. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“There is not thought to be any threat to the wider public at this time.”

As of 10am on Monday morning, a large section of the street remained cordoned off several hours after the shooting took place, with two police officers guarding it, and a forensic officer working in the garden of one property.

Yellow evidence markers could be seen all over the grass, and the same officer also used a ladder to access rooftops at the front of the building to search and document them as well. 

One Odstock Road resident said: "I knew I heard something, sounded like a bang and then I was woken up by what I thought was a police helicopter going back and forth.

"I just assumed in my half-asleep state that it was a bin falling over as we’ve had a lot of wind and changeable weather lately."
