The following cases were heard in Swindon’s courts in the last week.
WEST SWINDON: Shane O’Hanlon, of Chartwell Road, must pay hundreds of pounds in compensation for criminal damage.
The 34-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to damaging a door at the bowling alley in Shaw Ridge Leisure Park on November 28, 2022.
He must pay £587.64 in compensation as well as a £40 fine, plus £85 in court costs and £16 to fund victim services.
PINEHURST: Daniel Hall, of Clive Parade, has been sentenced for driving offences.
The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance after travelling along Kembrey Street in a BMW on December 30, 2022.
He must carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £85 in court costs plus £114 to fund victim services. He has been disqualified from driving for 867 days – more than two years.
SWINDON: A 52-year-old man from the Blunsdon St Andrew area has been sentenced for being drunk while in charge of a child under the age of seven.
The offender, who the Adver cannot name to protect the anonymity of the child, pleaded guilty after being found drunk in a highway while looking after the youngster in February 2023.
He has been fined £243 and must also pay £85 in court costs plus £97 to fund victim services.
STRATTON ST MARGARET: Joshua McClean has been given a community order for stealing frying pans.
The 38-year-old, of Swindon Road, pleaded guilty to taking five Tefal frying pans worth £60 altogether from the Wilkinson in Greenbridge on January 4, 2023, and returning to the shop on January 6 to steal six more frying pans worth £60 in total.
He must carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £112 in compensation.
WEST SWINDON: Lewis Miles, of Chiminage Close in Marlborough, has been sentenced for driving offences after being caught on Mead Way.
The 41-year-old drove a Ford Transit van without due care and attention while having no valid insurance policy in place and possessing cannabis on September 15, 2022.
He must pay £85 in court costs plus £80 to fund victim services and two £80 fines. Eight points have been added to his driving licence.
PENHILL: Liam Smith, of Latton Close, has been jailed for 15 weeks due to failing to comply with requirements of his post-custodial sentence supervision and for having “a flagrant disregard for court orders”.
The 34-year-old stole two rugs worth a total of £32 from Wilko in The Parade on March 24, 2023, then took a TVO pressure washer worth £192 from Machine Mart on Victoria Road on April 1, and was found to have heroin in his possession on April 18.
He must pay £124 in compensation altogether.
STRATTON: A1 Retro Sprays, of Kingsdown Road, has been fined £900 and ordered to pay £110 in court costs plus £360 to fund victim services.
The company failed to give information relating to the identification of a driver of a Kia Soul when required by police as the motorist was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.
MOTORWAY: Ajay Virdi, of Grasholm Way in Slough, has been banned from driving for 44 months.
The 38-year-old drove a Maxus Deliver vehicle along the M4 near Swindon on February 5, 2023, and - when breathalysed - had 84 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, which is more than double the legal limit.
He must pay £85 in court costs plus £184 to fund victim services and a £461 fine.
The charge was proved in the defendant's absence.
TOWN CENTRE: Seydi Yanardag, of Cottington Close in Freshbrook, has been fined £10 after pleading guilty to an offence.
The 27-year-old opened the car door of an Audi A6 on Manchester Road so as to injure or endanger someone.
