Swindon has been named as one of the best places to live in the United Kingdom by the same website that recently declared it as one of the worst.
The latest ranking for the best places to live in the UK was released last week on the infamous iLiveHere website and the Wiltshire town’s placing may shock some.
On the list, which features 50 locations in total, Swindon finished in the top ten, ranking as highly as sixth above the likes of York, Brighton, and St Albans.
This was a shocking revelation given that the very same site had ranked Swindon as the eighth worst place to live in the country just two months ago.
Alongside Swindon’s ranking the article read: “Who would have thought it, pig hill is the 6th best place to live in England? Well we don’t think so, but plenty of yokels do.”
It is worth pointing out that the website is for satirical purposes and works mainly off user contributions.
The iLiveHere website ranking said: “Finally it’s here. Our first ever best places to live in England poll 2023, as voted for by 67,955 of our readers.
“According to our analytics, every other over 60 stakeholder and estate agent in the towns that make up the core of our ‘worst places’ poll had decided to try and do something about it, and good for you… but not for us!”
Back in February, the site published its worst places to live in the UK list with Swindon featuring.
When describing the Wiltshire town, that article said: “Swindon is Britain’s most average town.
"The conclusion we must draw from this is that Britain is broken, and not worth saving,” read the report, as it named Swindon as the eighth worst place in the UK.
“The town centre has long had its lifeblood sucked away by the designer outlet (parking and traffic hell) and the Orbital shopping park, and is now a post-apocalyptic, boarded-up, wasteland of tramps and drunks screaming at each other.”
The photo used of Swindon in the latter article was covered in the words “irony alert”.
Despite the site insisting that all opinion articles are for entertainment purposes only and are satire, the latest ranking will provide little comfort reading for Swindon residents.
