A woman who suffered a brain tumour has shaved her head in front of a live audience in a popular Swindon pub to fundraise.
Clare Danswan, who lives near the Railway Village, told the Adver back in February that she planned to shave off her long hair to raise money for charity.
Two months later, the 37-year-old has come good on her promise, shaving her head in her local pub The Beehive on Saturday evening.
Several people flocked into the Prospect Hill pub to see Clare shave off her long locks to raise money and awareness for brain tumour research.
The cause is an important one to Clare as she herself had a brain tumour in her younger years.
“It was a good evening with a lot of people coming out and we had good fun, even having a themed playlist playing in the background,” she said.
“My friend clipped it of as people cheered and another friend was live streaming it on Facebook.
“It did not take very long to do at all and after I spread some of the bunches of hair over myself after the shaving for a comb over to joke around.”
Clare is now feeling the effects in the days following the shaving with everyday activities now different for the foreseeable future.
“It’s cold and I am definitely feeling it. I spent most of the day with a neck tube on my head to keep me warm and a beanie at work.”
“My first shower was interesting as I’m used to rinsing my long hair but there was no hair to reach for.
“A lot of people are saying it surprisingly suits me but I’ll gradually grow it out and get it long.”
Speaking before the event, she previously told the Adver: “I am here now and in a position where I can do these things to raise awareness and help other people.
“I’ll hide under a baseball cap in the summer if I want to cover it up!”
The response to Clare’s efforts has been strong with many donations supporting the cause.
“I am a little under £700 on just giving and the bucket collected £287 in the bucket in cash and colleagues at work have given £180,” she said.
“Up to now the total is over £1,100 and everyone has been really generous and kind.”
