Staff at a new Swindon takeaway serving burgers and chicken have called a food hygiene inspector's low rating "a kick in the teeth".
Wing It opened on Cricklade Road in Gorse Hill in January but failed to impress inspectors from Swindon Borough Council, who visited the business on March 30.
The results of that inspection have just been published.
Improvement is deemed necessary for the hygienic handling of food and for the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building.
Major improvement is necessary for the way the business manages food safety.
The Food Standards Agency has given the takeaway an overall rating of one out of five - major improvement necessary.
This means that of Swindon's 256 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 222 (87 per cent) have ratings of five out of five while just one has a zero rating.
A member of staff who did not wish to give his name told the Adver: "We weren't happy with the rating, it does not reflect our business at all.
"It felt like a kick in the teeth, I think they caught us on a bad day, though I understand that they're just doing their job.
"They had an issue with one of our freezers, they said there was food on the floor but it was bottles of sauce in packaging, and they weren't happy with the systems in place."
The takeaway's menu offers chicken wings, boneless chicken strips, and burgers along with flavours like lemon pepper jerk, hot buffalo, honey BBQ, and Thai sweet chilli, as well as sides including fries, mozzarella sticks, corn ribs, coleslaw, and mac and cheese, and a range of dips.
The staff member added: "All the issues have been sorted now, it's nothing to worry about. We have a better system in place to structure everything, the kitchen is clean and tidy, and we will get the rating we need.
"We serve high-quality fast food, we have had no complaints from customers, no-one has been ill after eating here, and the reviews are good."
Wing It has received just under a dozen Google Reviews, with an average rating of 4.7 stars. Feedback posted within the last month claims the food is "delicious" and "fantastic value for money", with a couple of reviewers suggesting that it might be their new favourite takeaway.
