The following cases were heard in Swindon’s courts during the last week.

TOWN CENTRE: Beau Houghton, of Spring Close, must pay hundreds of pounds in compensation for stealing a bicycle.

The 46-year-old took the two wheeler worth £300 from Swindon train station on Station Road on July 11, 2022.

He must pay back the value of the bike to its rightful owner through deductions to his benefits.

Houghton must have six months of alcohol and drug dependency treatment along with up to 25 days of rehabilitation activities as part of a community order.

PENHILL: Mark Stanners, of Downton Road, pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage.

The 53-year-old beat up a man and destroyed numerous bottles of wine at Penhill Food and Wine on September 24, 2022.

He must pay £50 in compensation and take part in up to 20 days of rehabilitation activities as part of a new community order.

Separately, Stanners assaulted a man and used threatening or abusive words and behaviour towards his victim on February 17, 2023.

After pleading guilty to these two extra offences, he must pay back another £50 in compensation and receive six months of alcohol treatment.

RODBOURNE CHENEY: Mariusz Pietryga, of Northern Road, must pay hundreds of pounds in compensation for assaulting an emergency services worker.

The 41-year-old beat up a police officer on February 17, 2023. He must pay a £200 fine plus £250 to his victim, as well as £85 in court costs.

BLUNSDON: Liam Whyte, of Holdcroft Close, has been fined for stealing from a petrol station shop.

The 29-year-old took two four-packs of Tyskie beer and a chicken, bacon and stuffing sandwich – worth £18.63 altogether – from the Applegreen Garage on Great Western Way.

He has been fined £50 and must pay £84 in court costs.

LIDEN: Two people have been sentenced for working together to carry out thefts.

Jennifer Williams and Jamie Hunt, of Arnfield Moor, faced two charges of theft each and pleaded guilty to all of them.

Williams, 42, and Hunt, 44, stole laundry products worth £90 from Wilko and meat products worth £46.52 on February 20.

They have each been fined £50 and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.

GORSE HILL: Mihail Vasile, of Buller Street, has been sentenced for stealing from a clothes shop.

The 54-year-old had a de-tagging device at his home address on March 4 and, on the same day, took three items worth a total of £169.97 from TK Maxx.

He has been fined £161. The de-tagging device has been forfeited and destroyed.

SWINDON: Michael Thompson has been jailed after breaking a restraining order.

The 35-year-old, currently in probation accommodation in Bristol, broke the order by contacting a woman on April 24, stealing her Ring Doorbell and causing £758 worth of damage to her vehicle’s windscreen.

He must pay £60 in compensation and has been sent behind bars for 16 weeks due to the severity of the offences, which happened at night while “in drink” and while a child was present.

HAYDON WICK: Kevin Legg, of Sherford Road, has been sentenced for a driving offence.

The 68-year-old drove a Ford Tourneo along Avonmead without due care and attention on October 26, 2022.

He pleaded guilty and has received a £300 fine plus seven penalty points on his driving licence. He must also pay £85 in court costs plus £120 to fund victim services.

ELDENE: Andrew Panczak, of Overbrook, must pay a hefty fine for racially abusing a woman in the town centre.

The 35-year-old used racially aggravated threats, or abusive words or behaviour towards his victim in Regent Circus on November 25, 2022.

He must pay a £1,200 fine plus £400 in compensation and £85 in court costs.
