A suspected drug driver has been arrested after police received reports of a vehicle travelling the wrong way along the M4.
The VW Golf was spotted when it arrived to help a broken-down van near Junction 14 (Hungerford) on the hard shoulder.
Thames Valley Police's Road Policing posted on their social media that as the Golf arrived to help, he decided to drive a bit further on, turn and travel the wrong way up the M4 to jump start the car.
Following a positive roadside drug test and investigation, police found that the VW driver was disqualified and uninsured to drive the car.
TVP Road Policing posted on their Facebook: “As you can probably imagine, this is something we do not want to hear and or deal with as what could happen is not worth thinking about.
“When XRX15 arrived at the location this van had broken down on the hard shoulder.
"However, the issue we had was that this VW Golf arrived to help and decided they'd drive a bit further on, turn, and drive the wrong way to try and jump start the van! You literally couldn't make it up!
“Now strap in for this bit, the driver of the VW is a disqualified driver, had no insurance to drive the car and..... failed a roadside drug wipe.
“The driver was arrested and taken to custody where a blood sample was taken. We now await the blood result to return and then a file for all 3 offences will be submitted and a day in court for the driver can be expected.”
