A key route for Wiltshire motorists has reopened almost 24 hours after a fatal crash.
One woman in her 40s was killed in a collision on the A417 in Birdlip, between Swindon and Gloucester, at around 9pm on Wednesday (May 10).
Another woman, in her 30s, was seriously injured and taken to Southmead Hospital for treatment.
The road remained closed between the A419 and Air Balloon Roundabout until just after 6pm this evening, around 21 hours after the incident was first reported.
Police investigation works were carried out during this time before the carriageway was reopened in both directions.
Confirming the update, a National Highways spokesperson said: “The A417 in Gloucestershire is now open in both directions.
“The earlier collision between the A419 and A429 (Burford Road) and the A436 (Air Balloon Roundabout) has cleared.
“Delays of less then ten minutes remain on the approach – in both directions.”
Gloucester Police have urged anyone who witnessed the collision, between a blue Mazda-2 and a white Nissan Qashqai, to come forward.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers from the Roads Policing Unit would like to hear from anyone who has not already spoken to police and has information they feel may be relevant.
"Additionally, they would like to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage they feel may be relevant."
