Proposals to introduce a 20mph speed limit in six residential areas across Swindon have taken another step closer to fruition.
Local ward councillors for six Swindon communities have submitted requests for new 20mph speed limits in their areas.
They hope these Traffic Regulation Orders will reduce collisions and minimise the risk of injuries or deaths when crashes do occur.
The locations which could be impacted by the plans are Delamere Drive in Stratton, The Beanlands in Wanborough, Rodbourne Green, Abbey View in Moredon, Old Shaw Lane and Queensfield in Stratton.
These plans have moved another step closer to potentially being confirmed after a three-week consultation began on May 12.
A formal consultation is stage two of the process of introducing the new speed restrictions, after an initial investigation and informal consultation were conducted.
During the consultation, residents, local businesses and other interested parties will have the opportunity to submit their support or objection to a 20mph speed limit.
All comments will be reported to the ward councillors and a cabinet member for consideration, while any formal objections will be considered by officers.
The incoming cabinet member responsible for parking will make the final decision.
If approved, the proposals will move onto stage three of the process meaning they will be implemented on site and enforced from an advertised operational date.
