A member of the public has died after being hit by a motocross bike at the British Championships in Wiltshire.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was killed when he was hit by an unmanned bike that left the track during the event at Foxhill, near Swindon, just before 3pm on Sunday, May 15.
He was later named as Simon Mitchell in a tribute left on social media.
Police say the incident happened after a rider was dismounted at a jump, causing the bike to leave the track.
A second man, in his 60s, suffered a serious injury and was taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for the event told the BBC the deceased man was a photographer, while the injured man was a marshal, and they were in a seperate section from general spectators.
They added that it was "very rare" for a non-rider to be killed during a motocross event.
The event was abandoned following the shocking incident.
Event organisers RHL Activities confirmed the event had been cancelled in a statement on their website.
It said: “RHL Activities are saddened to announce that this weekend’s meeting at Foxhill in Wiltshire has been cancelled. At this moment in time we ask that everyone bears with us and any further updates will be made if required.”
Wiltshire Police attended the incident and added the victim's next of kin have been informed.
