A Swindon mum has asked the public for help after her son stated his wish of arriving at his school prom in a tank.

Zack-Taylor Holloway of Liden will be going to the Kingsdown School prom on Friday, July 7, but aims to do so via an armoured vehicle.

The 15-year-old has been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome and has a special interest in the military.

Mum Vikki is aiming to make her son’s dream come true but her noble efforts hit a roadblock when she learned of the cost of hiring the military vehicle.

“He said that if he could go to prom in a tank then he would go and I laughed but he was deadly serious,” she said.

“It would cost me £8,000 in total though which is just too much and not doable.

“He has nobody to go with and hasn’t got any transport sorted out but if I can get him a tank, I’ll get him a tank you know what I mean.”

The 37-year-old mum of three spoke of how Zack-Taylor struggles socially.

“He has struggled to make friends all through school and although he speaks with friends online, he couldn’t go into a shop and buy something if he is unfamiliar with it,” she said.

“His general interest has always been military so a tank would make him feel more comfortable as it would make him feel popular even just for one day.”

The financial barrier is currently proving too much for the Swindon family with Vikki’s working hours not helping the situation.

“He wants to go in style and it’s about getting the wow factor but I just don’t have the money,” she said.

“I am happy to pay but I don’t want to take out a loan or destroy my bank balance and I am not expecting anyone to do it free, but £8,000 is a lot of money.”

“I also work 60 hours a week as a childminder so by the time I finish work, everywhere is closed already.”

Despite the dream seeming unrealistic, Vikki is still hopeful that someone will be able to help achieve Zack-Taylor’s dream.

“I never got to go to prom so I’m trying to live the experience through him as he’s my first child who is going to go,” she added.

“I just want to give him the best like any other parent would.”
