FOOTAGE taken of armed police closing a Swindon road and raiding a property has raised questions of whether gunshots can be heard.

The video, which has been shared with this newspaper, shows several police cars and police officers carrying guns surrounding a property in Bath Road, Old Town just after 6.30pm on Friday.

At one point there are several loud bangs and flashes of light that some have suggested could have been gunshots.

But others have speculated this might be some sort of flashbang-type device.

In another clip taken by the same person, a row of officers can be seen standing behind their police vehicles and pointing their weapons towards the building.

At one point one of them shouts "Armed police. Come out".

Later another car pulls up and more officers get out and then some take torches and start a visual search of the dimly lit building.

The police closed the road from Eastcott Hill roundabout to Goddard Avenue with many people in the area saying they had to go the long way round to get home or go out.

In a statement about this incident, and a later burglary on the same road that police responded to, a spokesman confirmed that whoever the force was after has not been caught.

"Officers carried out a warrant for a wanted person at a property at around 6.30pm yesterday (Friday) in Bath Road, Swindon," he said.

"The person was not located and enquires are continuing to locate them."

We have gone back to Wiltshire Police for clarification on what can be seen and heard in the video.
