A woman lied about having a sick son to get money from kind strangers.

Gemma Yates was in Royal Wootton Bassett in April when she dishonestly asked for money to transport a sick son to hospital in Royal Wootton Bassett, and received £20 from one of the people she pestered.

After pleading guilty plea to this offence, the 30-year-old received a 12-month community order, which includes six months of drug rehabilitation and up to 25 days of rehabilitation activities, and must also pay back £20 in compensation along with £114 to fund victim services.

Separately, the defendant, of Fairfield in Royal Wootton Bassett, pleaded guilty to three other charges.

She dishonestly claimed her mother and son were ill and in hospital in Royal Wootton Bassett at some point between February 21 and March 5, as well as on March 21 and April 25.

For these fraud by false representation offences, Yates must pay back a total of £160 in compensation.
