A supermarket shopper was horrified to find a coffee bottle with what appeared to be slugs trapped inside in the fridges of a Swindon Sainsbury's.
The woman made the grim discovery at the Bridgemead store, and said the milk shelf on which it was left was also covered in 'black gunk'.
“A shelf in the dairy aisle was disgustingly filthy with dirt that had obviously accumulated over a long time,” said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous.
“We noticed a bottle of Starbucks chilled coffee that had been drank and placed there containing something very odd inside.
“It looked very like slugs that were suckered to the side of the bottle not just stuck which made me feel sick.
“Along the aisle there was black gunk dripping down from inside the fridges, it looked like some kind of mould so I felt like walking away and leaving our trolley.”
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said in response: “We are sorry that this customer’s experience was not up to our usual high standards.
“Our stores have strict hygiene rules and our display units are cleaned and inspected regularly.”
