The residents of a busy Swindon road were left trapped inside their homes after a burst water main caused major flooding.
Flooding started in the early hours of Sunday morning outside the Country Ground Hotel on County Road as a water main at the site burst.
Residents were unable to leave their homes at around 5.30am due to the severe level of water outside their properties.
Adam Cryan lives just a few doors down from where the main burst and could not believe his eyes when he saw the scene.
"We woke up to the sound of gushing water at 5am so I was shocked to see that in the early hours,” he said.
"I was worried about the house being flooded."
The 26-year-old already had his suspicions that a water leak could happen due to some giveaway signs the evening before.
“We looked out of the window to see the whole road and path flooded," said Adam.
"I suspected there might have been a leak last night as there was a wet patch on the road when everything else was dry."
The flooding meant that four different roads were closed off to traffic including County Road, Gambia Street, Rosebery Street and Elmina Road.
As the remedial work continued, County Road remained closed off to the public due to the major surface damage endured.
