Innovative Knitex UK took over an old Market Street space and welcomed its first customers on June 17.
Bangladesh Association president Abdul Kahar and Swapan Roy, owner of Indian restaurant The Burj, attended the grand opening
The wholesale and retail store offers men's, women's, and children's clothes at bargain prices - most of the items in the shop when the Adver had a look around were £5 or less.
Debashis Saha said: "We deal with big buyers from all over the world and have recently set up in the UK.
"There is no middleman involved, so we can sell good quality clothes at a low price. Some of the overstocked goods we export are customised to the UK style and brought over here for retail.
"We're happy to see people coming into the store and we've sold more than expected in our first week of opening."
IKUK's director, Md A R Sabuj, has been manufacturing the garments in Bangladesh for more than 25 years and exported them to Japan, Canada, and parts of mainland Europe. The aim now is to expand the business to the UK and the rest of Europe.
