Members of the public will get the chance to speak to the contractors and councillors behind the Fleming Way regeneration scheme.

The main road has been closed off for months as workers prepare to lower the road to the level of The Parade, build a new bus interchange to replace the existing one, upgrade nearby public open spaces, add a new pedestrian crossing, and develop extra cycle lanes which will link to other routes around the town.

The project is due to be completed in autumn 2024.

Public information sessions will be held over the next two weeks so that people can ask project officers and Colas Ltd contractors about the ambitious transformation.

West Swindon Library is hosting the first session on Monday from 10am to 12.30pm.

Central Swindon's library will host the next one from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on the same day.

On Wednesday, there will be a session at North Swindon Library from 12pm to 2pm.

The Old Town Library and Arts Centre will host a session on Wednesday, July 5, from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

Pinetrees Library and Community Centre will host another one on the following day from 11am to 1pm.

The last information session will be held at Penhill Library on Friday, July 7, from 10am to 12pm.

Anyone who is unable to get to these events, can speak to a member of the team at Colas in person every Tuesday and Thursday between 12 and 2pm at the Swindon Hub at 36 The Parade.

So far, the old charity shop and travel shop near The Parade subway have been demolished so that the underpass can be removed.

When the two-year scheme is completed, Fleming Way will act as the main gateway to the town centre.

It is hoped that the £33m scheme will help to stimulate further investment in the town centre by increasing land values and making it more attractive for investors to bring forward new homes, offices, shops and leisure facilities.

The project is part of a wider town centre regeneration scheme which includes the newly-opened Zurich Insurance headquarters on Unity Place and the development of the Kimmerfields site which borders Fleming Way.
