A Stagecoach bus caught fire in Swindon's town centre during the Wednesday afternoon rush hour.
Crews from Westlea and central Swindon's fire stations responded to 999 calls at 5.55pm.
After arriving at the scene on Milford Street, they used four breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, and a main line to extinguish the fire as smoke billowed through the streets.
They also used small tools to make the vehicle safe. Police blocked the road while fire engines were parked on the route.
None of the passengers on the bus were injured. Firefighters left the scene at around 6.45pm. Swindon Borough Council staff placed cones around the charred wreckage of the bus so that through traffic could safely travel past it.
Glass and burnt bits of debris littered the road surface near the bus.
A witness told the Adver: “We got on the bus and then it stopped suddenly.
“A fire engine flew past us and everyone was confused and as the driver started driving again he turned the corner and we all saw all this dark smoke.
“It was very scary.”
