Alarm has spread through the Swindon community after a broad daylight attack near a primary school.

Officials from Lethbridge Primary School said the drugs-related attack involved two cars, four men, three e-scooters or bikes and that weapons, including machetes and baseball bats, were involved.

They said it took place last Thursday (June 29) in the car park of Croft Sports Centre.

It prompted officials from Lethbridge Primary School to warn parents via email.

In the email, which has begun circulating online via social media, parents were told: "We have been made aware by the principal of Croft School of an incident that took place in the car park of the Croft Sports Centre at 2.15pm last Thursday.

"The incident, which is believed to have been drugs related, involved two cars, four adult males and three e-scooters or bikes. Weapons (machetes and baseball bats) were involved."

It adds: "We do not have any further details at this time and do not know if anyone was injured in the incident.

"I share this information with you in the interests of community safety as many of our children play in the Croft area as well as our other parks and recreation areas in Old Town."

Wiltshire Police has confirmed that an incident had been reported to them.

However, the force said that only three men were involved - not four, and it does not confirm the presence of machetes or baseball bats, or a second car, or that it may have been drugs related.

In a statement, a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We attended Croft Sports Centre on Thursday (June 29) following a report that three men wearing balaclavas were damaging a parked car at about 3pm.

"The men then left on e-scooters.

"There were no reported injuries.

"We have not arrested anyone in relation to this incident."

One parent, who chose to speak to the Adver under the condition of anonymity, said that it left many very worried.

"It is worrying that a school has needed to send out such a distressing message to parents," they said.

"We have asked for an urgent update our end."

Police are looking into the alleged daylight attack on the parked car, and are now appealing for any witnesses of what happened to get in touch.

"We would like to hear from any witnesses or anyone with information who should call us on 101 quoting log 54230068143," the spokesperson added.
