An 11-year-old boy has died after a serious crash between a car and a lorry on a major Wiltshire road near Stonehenge.

The incident occurred at around 7.30 on Saturday evening as a black BMW travelling westbound towards Stonehenge was involved in a crash with a lorry parked in a layby.

The boy from London was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, and a passenger, a 15-year-old boy, both from London, suffered potentially life-changing injuries and have been taken to Southampton General Hospital.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed indefinitely throughout the night following the crash with the eastbound carriageway reopening after 10am on Sunday morning.

The westbound carriageway remains closed with the recovery of the vehicles on-going.

A/Insp Will Ayres of the Wiltshire Police Roads Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident where a young boy has lost his life and two more people are in a serious condition in hospital.

“Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed anything to please get in touch with us.”
