Parents have been left furious after a Swindon schoolgirl was allegedly told to “go and kill yourself” by one of her teachers.

The anonymous pupil is currently in Year 7 at Nova Hreod Academy on Akers Way.

A parent of a classmate of the girl told the Adver that the incident happened during a class on Monday.

The girl was asking questions to a supply teacher when she was told to kill herself, the parent who wishes to remain anonymous said.

After learning of the incident, parents of some of the other children in the class contacted the school and complained.

One of them, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted the Adver and said that the teacher had become "frustrated".

“My heart dropped when I was told as children of that age being spoken to like that is unacceptable, especially by a teacher," they said.

“I was blown away by that, especially with all of the mental health issues that face children today and I know that it does not take much to get in the head of someone that young."

The incident has scarred the parent and pupil so much that they have decided to leave Nova Hreod ahead of the new school year.

“Teachers can influence you so it has made me want to take my children out of the school as I no longer trust the institution,” said the parent.

“I plan to find a new school for my child for next year as I just cannot let her continue in this environment because it’s causing my family major anxiety over the clear lack of safeguarding.

“This person was a supply teacher and I feel like they are getting anyone off the street to get the staff in as these people do not have a clue on how to deal with children.”

Nova Hreod told the Adver that the supply teacher would not be invited back after they learned of the incident.

A Nova Hreod Academy spokesperson said: “We can confirm that concerns were raised with the school about the behaviour of a temporary supply teacher.

“As a supply teacher, the individual was not employed by the school.

“As soon as the concerns were raised, the school informed the LADO [Local Authority Designated Officer] and the police and the supply teacher has not and will not be returning to the school.

“Like any school, Nova Hreod uses external agencies for sourcing supply staff. The agency takes responsibility for vetting any staff it supplies to schools.”
