The following cases were heard in Swindon’s courts earlier this month.

WROUGHTON: Craig Day, of Coronation Road, must pay compensation to his victims.

The 34-year-old used threatening or abusive words and behaviour towards two men at Great Western Hospital on New Year’s Day.

He pleaded guilty to two charges and must pay £50 in compensation to each of his victims, as well as an £80 fine plus £32 to fund victim services.

The court document notes that the fine would have been £60 but the offence was aggravated due to the homophobic nature of the remarks, and that it took into account the defendant’s remorse and the steps that have been taken to address alcoholism.

REDHOUSE: Joseph Fields, of Frankel Avenue, must carry out 100 hours of unpaid work after admitting to carrying an offensive weapon in public.

The 30-year-old had an extendable asp baton with him without lawful authority or reasonable excuse while on Wood Street on March 27, 2022.

He received a community order requiring him to attend up to 15 days of rehab activities and do 100 hours of unpaid work, and he must pay £85 in court costs.

The baton has been forfeited and destroyed.

ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT: Scott Elmore, of Tanners Close, has been sentenced for drug driving.

The 33-year-old drove a Ford Transit along Rylands Way while having 627 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine (cocaine) per litre of blood in his system.

The legal limit for Benzoylecgonine is 50 micrograms of drug per litre of blood.

He was also behind the wheel without a valid licence or insurance policy.

Elmore has been banned from driving for 12 months, fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £48 to fund victim services.

The 30-year-old drove an Audi A3 along Great Western Way on August 1, 2022, while high on cocaine, with 103 micrograms of benzoylecgonine in his blood.

The defendant indicated pleas of guilty to possessing cannabis and cocaine in Swindon on the same day as the driving offence.

He has been banned from driving for 12 months, fined £120, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £112 to fund victim services. The drugs have been forfeited and destroyed.

He has been banned from driving for 20 weeks, fined £422, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £169 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: Suzanne Tayler, of no fixed abode in the Swindon area, has been sentenced for thefts.

The 34-year-old admitted to stealing a person’s donation box with £300 in it in Swindon on May 16, taking goods worth £25.40 from a Swindon Co-op on April 26, and shoplifting £35 worth of alcohol from the supermarket chain on May 12.
