Two key Swindon roads are set to shut for resurfacing works as part of a major improvement scheme.
Resurfacing work on both Marlborough Road and Queens Drive, as part of the Coate Water roundabout improvement scheme, will see the two roads close overnight several times during the next month.
The work will begin on Tuesday, July 18, and will last for several weeks, with the final closure scheduled for August 22.
All resurfacing maintenance requiring road closures will be carried out overnight, between 8pm and 6am, and the carriageways will be shut one side at a time.
Access will be permitted for emergency services at all times, but residents will be required to use location diversion routes.
Councillor Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, insisted that the council were committed to minimising disruption to residents.
He said: "As part of the council’s pledge to Keep Swindon Moving, the deployment of night closures where appropriate will be crucial to minimise disruption to residents.
“This will be one component of a larger initiative and considerable body of work that will include challenging contractors’ and utility providers’ use of road or lane closures and the deployment of temporary traffic lights.
“We will also challenge them when they put cones out early before work is due to start and encourage them to better plan their schemes to minimise disruption to residents wherever possible.”
Local business and Great Western Hospital have reportedly been informed about the closures and advance signage will also be in place.
Swindon Borough Council warned the works will be dependent on weather and are therefore subject to change.
The scheme comes as part of a larger project to improve the Coate Roundabout, which began in April.
This includes the closure of two subways under the roads and the installation of a new toucan crossing, footway and cycleway links on Queens Drive.
