A fish and chip shop in Swindon has been handed a zero food hygiene rating.
Mr Cod on Cricklade Road in Pinehurst serves a variety of food from fish and chips to burgers but has now received criticism for its hygiene.
Following an investigation by the Food Standards Agency on Friday, June 23, the takeaway was given the worst rating for hygiene, scoring zero out of five.
In the report, major improvement was deemed necessary to the handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.
Urgent improvement was also deemed necessary for the management of food safety and the cleanliness of the food and building.
Juanita Fernandes has been the manager of Mr Cod for seven months and explained the reason for the restaurant’s damning report.
“The boiler was broken and there was no hot water but now we have fixed it and applied for another inspection,” she said.
“We are expecting them to come back and we hope to get a previous rating of four back.”
The 38-year-old remains hopeful that customers will return despite the poor rating.
“It was unfortunate for us that day that we lost our rating and we welcome customers back,” said Juanita.
“I assure them that the hygiene will be of top class quality despite the rating.”
