The mother of a teenager who died of cancer after being misdiagnosed is hosting a fundraiser in her memory.
Kelly Baverstock has organised a Models of Corsham contest at the Town Hall from 3pm on Saturday, July 29, to support Cancer Research UK.
In December 2018, her 13-year-old daughter Tanisha saw a GP after struggling with a persistent cough, breathlessness, and weight loss.
The medic diagnosed a chest infection and arranged for a blood test.
Tanisha later died less than 24 hours after a hospital CT scan on January 29, 2019, confirmed that she actually had non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
Kelly said: “I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye, it happened so quickly,
“If the money this event raises saves just one life, that’s something.
“Tanisha would be looking down and smiling.
“I am truly grateful for everyone who has helped make this event possible.”
The fundraiser has received a lot of support from businesses in the area.
Supermarkets Tesco and Co-op have chipped in to help supply raffle prizes and refreshments, while Mike Booth from Digital Mansions has offered the use of his conference room for the models to train and prepare ahead of their catwalk show.
Corsham Fire Station firefighters have also volunteered to strut down the catwalk on the day.
