POLICE have confirmed that an investigation is underway in Penhill.

But, in a statement provided to the Adver, a spokesperson for the force also said they were not able to share any more.

The spokesperson said: "Officers are conducting searches in the Inglesham Road area of Penhill as part of an ongoing police investigation and as a result, Inglesham Road has been cordoned off whilst this work is carried out."

Before adding: "Due to the nature of the investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

On Saturday, at around 2pm, a large police cordon was set up in an area of the Swindon suburb and remained there for the remainder of the day.

The cordon spanned from the flower park on Inglesham Road right down the way to Stockton Road, Newton Way and Semley Walk.

But locals - who had to be personally escorted in and out of the cordon to get to their homes - were none the wiser about what was going on.

And residents have confirmed that the cordon is now in place into its second day as it is still there as of 9am on Sunday morning.
